The Other Side of the Water (2010)


The Other Side of the Water is a feature documentary chronicling the underground world of Haitian Rara music in Brooklyn.


The film explores three generations of Haitian Roots music in Brooklyn, and was broadcast on PBS January 2011.

Carnegie Hall Series (2008-Present)

Ibis has been producing and editing artist interviews for the Carnegie Hall website, ranging from the 100-year old composer Elliot Carter to the Chinese piano prodigy Lang Lang.  Click HERE for a preview of Jessye Norman’s Honor! Festival.


Composer Portraits (2006-Present)

  Short Documentary Series

Between 2006-2010, Ibis produced a series of over a dozen short documentary portraits of contemporary jazz, classical, and experimental composers in conjunction with the American Composers Orchestra. The full series is online HERE

Composer Journeys (2008-2010)

  Experimental Documentary

In spring 2008, the portrait project was extended into an experimental series following two composers as they create new orchestral works.  The pieces were posted on YouTube in real-time and screened at Carnegie Hall during the live concerts.

The Cause of Pierre Toussaint (short doc-2004)

This short documentary chronicles the story of the 17th Century entrepreneur and former slave from Haiti who is being considered for sainthood by the catholic church.  Created in conjunction with the Interfaith Center of New York.

Re-Imagine the Future: The Journey from Prison to College (2008)

  Short Documentary DVD


Ten formerly incarcerated individuals tell their personal stories of reentering society after prison and their journey to college. A commission by the New York State Department of Corrections, and created with the non-profit The College Initiative, this piece is shown as part of discharge planning in all NY state prisons. 


Echoes of Incarceration
(2009)

  Youth Produced Documentary

A documentary about the effects of the prison system on families, produced by children of incarcerated parents.  A collaboration between Ibis, The College Initiative, The CUNY Graduate Center, and funded by the Ford Foundation  Find out more HERE.
